About

BYUnity is a division of BYU/SA that works on unifying students across campus.

This blog is for all BYU students. It is a forum where BYU students can share their unique BYU perspectives and submit their unique stories. These posts are designed to be uplifting and to open our eyes to the many different backgrounds, challenges, circumstances and lives of the students we walk past on campus every day.

If you think you would like to contribute to this site, email us at byuexperiences@byu.edu.

Here are the guidelines:

Who is the audience for this blog?
This blog is an open, respectful place for the BYU student body to discuss the topics of diversity and inclusivity as it relates to the BYU experience.

What should I know about tone for this essay? What can I say/not say?
This blog is safe place for all, not an appropriate forum for angry, vulgar, or profane remarks of any kind, nor for expressions of antagonism against any person or organization. In order to foster an environment of respect and understanding, we ask all participants to be mindful of our political neutrality, and we also ask all participants to be respectful of BYU, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and the beliefs and experiences of others. Above all, we support BYU students in upholding the Honor Code.

Please write up to 700-1000 words, using the general arch of the following questions as your guide. You don’t need to answer all of these questions and you can think of your own too; think of this as your prompt:

  • How would you describe yourself? Where are you from? What are you studying? What are your passions? What makes you unique?
  • What has been the most challenging part of being a part of the BYU community?
  • What is something funny and unique that has happened to you on campus?
  • How has BYU changed you?
  • What are some of the adversities you have faced in our campus culture?
  • What resources at BYU have helped you feel welcome and loved? Were there programs, professors, communities, friends at BYU that helped you?
  • Was there ever a time you felt alone or unwanted at BYU? How did you cope with it?
  • What advice do you have for BYU students?
  • What is your one wish for the BYU community?

BYUnity will not personally edit or alter the content of your submissions (beyond grammar) but we do reserve the right to sort through which blog posts will be published on the blog. We may also ask you to make modifications to your post if we find that it does not meet the above criteria.
Lastly, there are many off-campus organizations — profit, non-profit, special interest, etc. — that would like to gain access to the BYU student population for advertising and/or recruiting purposes. We therefore reserve the right to not post any submission that includes promotion or endorsement of any off-campus business, organization, or group. This is intended to ensure that BYU Experiences remains a valuable student resource that is free from solicitation and/or recruitment efforts.

Thank you for your contribution!
